A Japanese-Singlish Connection

Day 7: Sunday, 28 October 2012

We set out early this morning at 6am to Pastor Beng Tian's residence to cook our Singaporean dishes. It was an indeed crazy attempt. The menu we were preparing included chicken rice, chap chye, chai po egg, ba kut teh, green bean soup, toasted bread and half-boiled eggs. No one in the POR team is experienced in cooking chicken rice but we went with a willingness to try. There was lots of buzz in the cozy apartment this morning. To some, the cooking was their first ever attempt. It was Nicole's first attempt in chopping chicken after attending a crash course yesterday on YouTube. It was Calvin's 1st attempt in cooking the green bean soup. And it was my 1st attempt to baby-sit little Ezra!

The little Red Dot party started at 10am and our Japanese friends started coming in despite the wet weather. There was excitement and also uncertainty in my heart because I really didn't know what to expect. But we just kept going. And it turned out to be a beautiful experience as people from two different worlds connected with one another. I learnt that when we have the heart for people, nothing can stop us from reaching them, not even language. I can only say that it was truly God who has helped us enhanced the flavor in the dishes and the little community this morning.
