Reflection: Play
The element of “play” is often considered to be unproductive and gets sidelined in our lives. From 6 to 7 July, some Evangelites rediscovered the importance of play by intentionally joining a 2-day journey of Reflection for a refreshing and fun time of meaningful discussion on God’s Word, fasting, prayer, stories, painting and other creative activities. Here are snippets from different ones on the lessons they had gleaned from their 2-day journey. The 2-day Reflection has really enriched and edified our lives. I have learnt we need to have “play” also in our daily lives.

My take away from this Reflection is to learn to enjoy whatever I do, be it work or play. It all depends on our attitude that determines how we perceive what we do. We can learn to enjoy work as well as play. In all things that I do, I want to do it for the glory of God.

It’s my second time participating in Reflection and it’s a good break for me from the army. Although it’s trees and greenery again on a weekend but the company is different. We have all learnt from each other’s perspective to be optimistic about life.

Draughtswoman
To see, to learn from others and to receive is what I got from this Reflective session so that I could live better, cope better and to discover about play.

Financial Consultant
I have come to realise that in the midst of our busy and fuzzy lifestyle, it is essential for us to take time and play. This will enable us to de-clutter and realign our thoughts and perspectives in life. Since we only live this life once, I would want to exchange a sophisticated or even complex lifestyle to a more fulfilling and purposeful journey.

Polytechnic Graduate
Very thankful for a time of Reflection where I can spend quality time to reflect about my life. I am glad to hear different stories from others and be encouraged to change my lifestyle and spiritually for the better. As the theme is on play, I have learnt to also “play,” care for myself like how God wants us to love and care for ourselves.
Michelle Gan,
University Graduate
This is an opportunity for me to step out of my daily routine to reflect and seek the Word of God. I gained a different perspective of play in finding joy and taking time out to take care of oneself. Our work, our ministry can also be a form of play.

It is interesting to know the different ways to have fun from others which can be adapted into our lives for good purposes.

Through the open and sincere sharing by each member of the group, I was able to learn from their lives. The program was interesting and it helped me to be renewed and rediscover my relationship with God and see life in different perspectives.

It was a wonderful time of Reflection that refreshes our soul. In our busyness, finding time to “play” is always an option that we always bypass, an option that feels unimportant. If only we could intentionally set aside time in our busyness each time, we will go back to the basic of how God had “playfully” created this world.
