Reflections

Here are some insightful snippets of comments from those who came and participated in our 3–day journey of Reflection:

Joanne Oh:

“Reflection 2010 is a life changing experience. Saying that is actually an understatement. We did a lot of reflections about our nation, our church and also ourselves during our own prayer walks. However, what really changed my perception and view of many things in my life was when we visited Rainbow Centre, a centre for the disabled kids, ranging from mild to severe. Seeing this kids brought tears to my eyes. I had to control not crying in the classes when the teachers were explaining how they could not even do simple task like asking for food when they're hungry. How they can only communicate with words not even enough to make a sentence. And here we are, here I am, complaining about life all the time. These feelings may have been said or felt before. We can say, "Oh, been there, done that." But looking at the faces of the children smiling so widely at simple praises is something I'll remember forever and something I pray that everyone will experience at least once in their lifetime.”

Nicole Kin:

“Initially, the purpose of me signing up for ‘Reflection’ was because I wanted to go to Rainbow Centre. However, ‘Reflection’ changed my perspective totally. The ‘Reflection’ programme revived my spiritual walk with God. Ever since Hui Xin left for Region C to fulfil God’s purpose for her life, it had been a struggle for me leading a YCG alone. It’s not easy with the huge responsibilities. At times, I feel like giving up as I am not cut out to be a good leader and having also to juggle with both studies and work and wishing God to give me a good assistant. “Reflection” gave me hope, peace and confidence once again. Sharing my stories, reflecting my life and God’s goodness let me remember that I am not alone. Prayer is the key to success and breakthrough. Fasting and prayer help me to recollect my first love for God. Secondly, I had been thinking hard on which degree course to choose with the near completion of my diploma at the end of October. I was planning to pursue a degree in Law as I felt that Child’s Psychology would not bring me far. Everything changes when I visited Rainbow Centre. It reminded me of the burden I had or God had planted in my heart for children with special needs. It also reminded me of how I landed a teaching job in preschool and all these add up to a purposeful and a memorable reflection. A turning point in my life again! J

Cindy Lim:

“Hi pastors, thank you for leading us during these 3 days of reflection. I have enjoyed myself so much while with the group. I have benefited much when we studied the 9 chapters of Genesis together. The contributions from different ones were encouraging as   each one shares on how the same verse speaks differently to us. The sharing of our stories were also edifying and meaningful because we got to know each other better and am also encouraged by their lives. The food was also yummy. Just want to thank the church for giving us a fruitful and pampering time!”

Larissa Seah:

“As a Christian for so many years, the 3 days’ reflection has been quite an experience. We never imagined that we could make it through. Indeed, it is by God’s grace that we survived the 3 days’ fasting. How relevant as we took stock of our life and renewed our strength to continue our Christian walks.
At the same time, we had a group of brothers and sisters with different ages from all walks of life.  Each individual life story has been a blessing to everyone. And all of us can understand one another better and connect with each other in a unique way. God is merciful that He sees us through the good times and the bad times. Our prayers are never in vain. We also see God’s transforming power in the 3 young men’s life. Our God is real. Let us believe and trust Him in our life’s endeavoring journey with Christ.”

Irene Chua:

“Never believe I could go through the 3 days of reflection. What touch me most is the open sharing and reading of God’s Word in the morning and looking at it from different views. Thank you to all who had organised it.”

Julie Sarmiento:

Having been part of the 3 days reflection journey was a great reminder for me of God's awesome power.  Getting back to the beginning where it all started, where we read Genesis 1 to 9, clearly we remembered how perfect God is and how imperfect we are.  We really need to rely on God to guide us.

Jacquelyn Rajamgam:

“Reflection has been refreshing. Came with no expectations but ended with a renewed mindset. So much to learn from the older members of the church and encouraging how God works in each of our lives despite our age. The park devotions are unique and ministering as we shared our thoughts on the verses. The activities are good and fun. Food is amazing. The leadership was really gracious to assure that all of us were well taken care of. Looking forward to the next one.”

Jacinta Joyce:

“The event was great! It is a real blessing to be in Evangel and to be part of the reflection programme. I learnt to accept people for who they are and not to pity them because of their disability and they do not need our pity but acceptance. I learnt to appreciate the little things in life and take more notice of people and to smile more!:) I totally enjoyed myself during the three days!!:)”

Jeff Zheng:

“I felt that this reflection was a really good time to ponder on how God has seen us through, and what we can do for God in the future. I guess if there is something that we all can work, I guess having the stories session in a more conducive environment like the aircon room for the afternoon session would be better.”

Liaw Chun Seng:

“Reflections allowed me to take time off from my work to fully focused on the things around me and the study of God's words. It also allows me to hear other people’s perspectives of the Bible verses, which are different from mine. Spending time with the children at Rainbow Centre showed me how blessed I am and not to take things for granted. Had been encouraged and blessed as well by the personal stories shared by the different members of my group.”

Nelvin Ng:

“I learnt different perspective from different individuals during this reflection. It's encouraging as we fast, pray and reflect together.”

Cassandra Joyce:

“The reflection was good. It taught me many new things… especially in the Rainbow Centre, I've learnt to be thankful and appreciate how I am now. And hearing all the different people's life story was really great, especially to see God working in all our lives and to sum up - We were really blessed by the stories, Bible reading and reflecting on things around us.”

Tan Boon Lai:

“Really thank Evangel for organizing these 3 days of Reflection for us to share with everyone how we feel, our life story and testimony. Thank God for seeing us through and the good weather that God gave us. Really blessed by all the sharing and life stories. We see God’s power working in all His children. He is a good God. I feel we should share forth God’s Word to everyone. God, I pray that you will continue to bless your faithful servants to walk alongside with You wholeheartedly. Just like what Pastor Casey shared, ‘The 3 days of Reflection ends today but our journey with God will never end.’ Amen!!!”
